CATS coach Chris Scott has used the Round 1 episode of Tweet the Coach, brought to you by Momentum Energy, to speak about how the club's coaching panel wants to improve.

"I think if I was to be really specific … the focus for us is making sure we have the right combinations of players in the right places at the right time," Scott said.

“Sometimes there’s a misconception that the coach’s box is pulling the puppet strings and manoeuvering players all around the field in intricate detail on game-day.

"The reality is that most of that work is done in planning and empowering the players.

"But I think on game-day we can put a little bit more time into making sure we get exactly what we want in those really big moments."

Scott also spoke about:

* Josh Caddy’s ability to improve Geelong’s performance around stoppages

* The reasons he thinks the Cats will be better this season than they were in 2014

* The changes to the club’s fitness program

* The progress of Billie Smedts
