Colac cricketer Aaron Finch has made a dream start in Australia's Cricket World Cup campaign scoring a century in his first World Cup match.

Finch, a keen supporter of the Cats, scored 135 from 128 balls including 12 fours and three sixes.

After being dropped in the first over, Finch helped Australia set up a commanding total of 342 from their 50 overs.

Geelong Cats president Colin Carter praised the efforts of Finch.

“It was thrilling for all of us at the club to see someone who grew up in our region and who is a supporter of the club do his state and his country so proud.” Carter said.

“We can only hope that we have as many memorable matches at the MCG this year as Aaron has had today.”

The Cats will kick off their 2015 home and away season at the MCG on Easter Monday against Hawthorn.
