Versatile Cat Mark Blicavs is not letting the recruitment of two ruck/forwards worry him about selection in 2015.

Ex-Saint Rhys Stanley and Ex-Demon Mitch Clark both joined the Cats in the AFL trade period and will look to play predominantly as forwards with some ruck work. But Blicavs, who plays a similar role to the two, sees the recruitments as a good thing.

Speaking with news.com.au, Blicavs said he was ready for the challenge.

“Competition is what you need, it pushes you really well so we are looking forward to it.” Blicavs said.

“It’s fantastic with both of them (Clark and Stanley), they can play forward and in the ruck so it’s just another option along with ‘Hawk’ (Tom Hawkins).

“It gives us more versatility as well. It’s really exciting to see what those two can bring to the team.’’

Despite playing 45 games in his first two season, Blicavs sees plenty to work on in his development.

“As long as I can keep fit and really strong, I just want to be able to take a few more contested grabs and really help the team in an attacking way,’’ Blicavs said.

“I’ll go through it with the coaches, work it out from there, but that’s something I’m definitely setting my sights on.

Blicavs joined captain Joel Selwood and teammate Jackson Thurlow in the Noosa Triathlon on the weekend. The trio split the legs with Blicavs taking the 10km run, Selwood the 40km bike ride and Thurlow the 1500m swim.

A former elite runner, Blicavs felt prepared for the run until the heat of Queensland got to him.

“I thought I was, but then I was 2km in and I thought, `It’s a bit hot’,’’ Blicavs said.

“It’s been a long long time (since running that distance), I blew the cobwebs out ... I’m battling a bit now but it’s good.

“It’s fantastic, it was great fun.’’

The Cats’ team completed the course in 2:26.34.
