Geelong premiership defender Tom Lonergan will remain a Cat after turning down an offer to leave the club.

Lonergan, who is contracted past this season, turned down a reported three-year deal from the Western Bulldogs.

Geelong general manager of football, Neil Balme, said the club was pleased Lonergan will remain at the club.

“We are very happy Tom will see out his contract with the club.”

“There is no doubt he is a important member of our side going forward.”

Lonergan, 30, was selected in the 40-man All Australian squad this season and is regarded as one of the game’s best shut down defenders.
