Tuesday night, Geelong’s skipper Joel Selwood claimed his sixth accolade at the AFL Players’ Association (AFLPA) Most Valuable Player of the Year Awards night.

Off the back of another brilliant home and away season, Geelong’s leading Cat received, for a third consecutive year, his fourth most courageous player of the year award voted by his fellow AFL peers.

During his eight-year career, Selwood, in true skipper style, has taken home a mantelpiece full of AFLPA awards.

In 2007, as well as winning the AFL’s Rising Star Award, Selwood won the AFLPA’s Best First Year Player Award.

2009, he won his first Robert Rose Award for the most courageous player of the year. He won the award again in 2012.

2013, he took home two AFLPA awards, including Best Captain Award and again most courageous.

And for the third time running and fourth overall, he was awarded the most courageous player of 2014.

This year, Selwood joined a number of leading AFL stars including Fremantle’s Nat Fyfe who took out the biggest award of the night, named the Most Valuable Player of 2014.

Hawthorn’s captain Luke Hodge was named Best Captain and Western Bulldogs youngster Marcus Bontempelli was Best First Year Player.
