After spending three weeks off his feet, Steve Johnson has hit the track running and is feeling positive that he’ll be ready to meet the Hawks for the Qualifying Final at the MCG.

“It’s feeling alright - I had a light run this morning,” Johnson said on Cats TV.

“It felt fine and hopefully now I’ll build up throughout the week and hopefully be a chance to take on the Hawks."

Johnson, who hasn’t played since the Cats close encounter with the Dockers in Round 20, is determined to be fit for Friday night’s blockbuster.

However, he won’t know the true answer until the end of this week’s training block.

“I’m really hopeful that I’ll be right by Friday night, after today’s session I’m just going to have to wait and see how I feel tomorrow,” Johnson explained.

“And then we’ve got our main training session on Wednesday, so all things going well I’ll get through that and pull up well Thursday and be selected to play Friday night.”

Having finished the season with a list full of ticks and a top four position, Johnson feels the Cats are on their way to delivering another strong finals’ campaign.

“The goal throughout the year was to finish top four to give ourselves a real opportunity to contend for another premiership, and I think we’ve well and truly done that,” Johnson said.

“The guys are playing with some real confidence, especially towards the back end of the year and that’s when you want to be carrying some good form.

“So this is a great opportunity Friday night, to take on (the Hawks) one of the best sides of the last five or six years, we always have great games against the Hawks and I know that the boys just can’t wait to get out there.”
