Rivers was signed as a free agent by the Cats at the end of the 2012 season and since then has played 29 games in the blue and white including 19 so far in 2014.
This season, Rivers has hit exceptional form registering not only a career high in marks per game but also the second most disposals per game of his 12-year career.
Rivers said he was thrilled to be able to continue his career at the Cats.
“I’m very thankful for the opportunity the Cats gave me two seasons ago and it was an easy decision to stay on with the club,” Rivers said.
“My teammates have made me feel welcome from day one and I’m enjoying every minute of being here.”
“My body is feeling great and the knowledge that we have a big opportunity not only this year but going forward made it an easy decision.”
Geelong Cats general manager of football, Neil Balme, said that Rivers performances throughout his time with the Cats made the decision to re-sign him an easy one.
“Jared is a fantastic individual who has already brought a lot to the side.” Balme said.
“We have been delighted with the impact he has made to the club are pleased that he will be able to continue on as a Cats player beyond this season.”
Rivers has played 179 games in his career at the Demons and Cats.
