With Shane Kersten likely to miss Saturday night with injury, Chris Scott strongly believes the probability of calling upon Mitch Brown to join the battle against the Lions is high.

Brown hasn’t put the senior boots on since the beginning of the year, where he played the opening three rounds.

However, the versatile Cat, who has only experienced one loss out of his 13 AFL games, has been on the brink of AFL selection ever since he was omitted.

“The flexibility Mitch has certainly works in his favour and I’d go so far to suggest that he would be extremely likely to come into our team this week, which is exciting for him and us,” Scott told Cats TV.

“We’ve debated long and hard about bringing Mitch in previous weeks and the decision just hasn’t gone quite his way, but his form at VFL level definitely warrants AFL selection.”

Mitch Brown played 14 VFL games this year for the Geelong Cats, where he accumulated a total of 21 goals, 81 marks and 200 disposals.

Carrying skills that are fit for either end of the stage, Brown could “potentially help with Harry” Taylor by taking his position down back says Scott, enabling the experienced defender to move forward and kick a few goals.

With finals less than two weeks away, the Cats match committee has also begun toying with the idea of playing Steve Johnson as a centre-half-forward when he returns.

Although Johnson only has a few centimetres off Taylor, Scott says his expertise lies more at floor level than in the air.

“I would argue that Steve Johnson is a better ground level player than he is a marking player even though he does have decent height,” Scott explained.

“We’ve preferred Steve more as a midfielder in recent times but I think in the back of our mind we know that Steve playing as your second or third tall forward can certainly work for us.”
