Former Geelong premiership defender Josh Hunt has today announced that he will retire at the season’s end.

Hunt played 13 games with Greater Western Sydney this year, following 198 games with the Cats, including both the 2007 and 2011 premierships.

The star defender took to Twitter to thank his former club:

“Huge thank you to @GeelongCats for taking a chance, 14 years ago, on a stocky kid from Mildura, making his childhood dreams a reality…

“And for all the unforgettable memories, amazing teammates & people I met during my 13 seasons @GeelongCats. Was an honour to wear the hoops,” Hunt said.

Addressing his GWS teammates this morning, Hunt advised them to enjoy their time playing AFL.

“It flies by, three years ago I was getting a premiership medal and thinking I have ten years to go.

“It catches up with you pretty quick(ly) and this year has been amazing and I’ve loved every second of it,” Hunt said.
