Josh Caddy went a step further to proving his value last Friday night with a 28-disposal, best-on-ground performance against Carlton.

Caddy’s inside work was telling against the Blues and since his return to the side in round 14, has played a major role in improving the Cats’ clearance issues.

Speaking on Cats TV’s Argue the Toss, AFL journalist Adam McNicol said Caddy or the ‘bull’ as he is affectionately known around the club, has the ability to win clearances.

“The Cats don’t have a lot of weaknesses but one weakness especially in the last couple of years has been their clearance work and their ability to win clearances, win that contested inside ball at ball-ups and throw-ins,” McNicol said.

“Caddy is an expert at that, he really is a bull.

“He burrows in, wins that first possession and then has some very good skills to be able to use it and hit a target after he’s won the hard balls.

“I think what we see is Caddy can really lift Geelong’s clearance work and that is very valuable because the other teams in the top four are very tough inside teams.

“The contested possession in the finals is a massive factor and Caddy can bring a lot to the table in that regard."
