Both luck and availability are two of the most important things to have when going into finals says senior coach Chris Scott, but unfortunately these two factors are the hardest to control.

As the Cats approach their last two games of the home and away season, the Cats will aim to steer themselves towards a top two finish in order to create a more comfortable path into the finals.

Along with luck and availability, Scott says the best way to ensure the Cats take a successful course into the finals is by stepping up the pace and increasing the pressure inside the battle.

“It’s hard to pin point one thing but broadly speaking improving our game and making sure we have some momentum going in… but availability and luck to an extent plays a fair part and how much we can control that is obviously hard to put a finger on,” Scott told Cats TV.

“But I think making sure that we manage our players well and we keep playing as well as we can and improving our game.

“So specifically, I always think the game starts with a contest, so if we can have two good games going into finals in and around the contest and around the contested ball then that will hold us in good stead for high-pressured games.”

This Saturday night the Cats will obtain this chance to test themselves when they come up against their biggest rival of the competition the Hawks.

“Every chance we get to practice the way we play against good opposition is valuable,” Scott said.

Scott also expects the Cats to implement a few new tricks into Saturday night’s clash plus a few more into their finals’ campaign.

“We will tweak a few things going into the game this week against Hawthorn and I suspect that we will probably tweak a few more if we get the opportunity to play them in finals,” Scott explained.

“It is not necessarily to experiment, it’s just a chance to practice the things we’ve talked about in theory in real high pressured situations.”

- Is there a chance Jackson Thurlow will keep his spot in the AFL?
- Should I go to my wife's 40th or find a way to watch the game this Saturday night?
