Looking forward and not back, Geelong’s skipper Joel Selwood says the Cats haven’t wasted their time dwelling on past collisions with Fremantle.

According to Selwood, those last two losses are irrelevant to Saturday night’s clash because every few weeks sides alter and transform.

“No we haven’t spoken about it this week and we haven’t used it as motivation or anything,” Selwood told 3AW.

“Obviously the footy season moves pretty quick and we think it changes every couple of weeks, so we don’t expect too much of the same but we understand what we’re going to get at the same time.”

Over the last couple of games the football world has seen a slight slip in Fremantle’s step, following the shocking 58-point loss to St Kilda and the close shave against Carlton last week.

Despite instable form, the Cats are preparing for the Dockers to bring their hardest brand of footy to Geelong’s home park.

“Good sides can change that quickly I believe, and they are a good side and they’ve obviously played finals the last couple of years and we’re expecting a really tight and tough Saturday night,” Selwood explained.

One of the biggest challenges to face the Cats this week is Fremantle’s infamous tagger Ryan Crowley.

Both Selwood and Steve Johnson are likely to be atop of Crowley’s hunting list, however, it depends on which Cat is causing the most trouble on the night.

“We’ll look around and see if we can help out one another and we’ll both prepare if it’s myself, or Steve or even Mitch Duncan, he’s been playing some good footy and Motlop, he could go to a number of players, so we’ll all prepare for him,” Selwood said.

This week young Cat Mark Blicavs, who only debuted in Round 1 last year, will be a crucial element to the Cats force on Saturday night.

Even though Blicavs had Olympic aspirations only a few years ago, Selwood ensures the developing Cat is here to stay.

“He’s been really important for us Mark, he’s obviously learned the game so much more since last year but his transition work forward and back is what we recognise the most,” Selwood said.

“He’s a real footballer now, which is important for us.”

Following Fremantle’s visit, the Cats will have Hawthorn, Carlton and Brisbane Lions to tackle before finals begin.

And Selwood is a firm believer that a tough run home is a better run home.

“It’s a really good run home for us. It will let us test ourselves out against a couple of the best sides and a couple in really good form.”

“We look forward to the challenge of all those games.”
