Both sitting on less than 100 games, Mitch Duncan and Allen Christensen continue to demonstrate their importance in the Cats best 22 says senior coach Chris Scott.

Even though the two Cats are still in the early stages of their career and in the midst of developing their craft, Scott says they’re ticking all the right boxes.

This year Christensen didn’t start his season until Round 14, however, with finals just around the corner, Scott sees his late return as an advantage for him and the team.

“He is a very important part of our structure and he plays an important role, he’s a very flexible player too,” Scott told Cats TV on Tweet the Coach.

“He’s the type if it’s not working for him in one position we’ve got a couple of other options for him.

“And not having him for the bulk of the year has given some others some experience in those positions, but it also means that going into the finals’ series that his body is in good shape.

“He’s fresh and not suffering from any ill affects from a long and arduous season, so we think that’s a positive.”

Running with an average of 22 disposals this season, this year Duncan has again proven to be a consistent and reliable Cat.

Last Saturday night against the Roos, the 23-year-old gathered 24 touches, eight marks and kicked three important goals.

Scott rates Duncan’s game very highly and believes the young Cat has the potential to develop his game even further.

“Mitch is a pretty balanced player, he’s a very good outside player, he has a beautiful kick, he’s a really hard runner and we’ve been working on trying to get him inside the contest a little bit more because we think he has got some promise there as well.”

“In terms of identifying his deficiencies we don’t think there is any glaring issues, it’s more a matter of accentuating his strengths.”
