The VFL Cats will be looking to build on the momentum gained from the Round 16 129-point demolition of Sandringham, against the emerging Frankston Dolphins at Simonds Stadium this Saturday.

After undoubtedly their best performance of the season, the second tier Cats have sneaked into the 8, but will need to win the majority of their last four matches to take part in the 2014 VFL Finals series.

This challenge is even more significant when you consider the current form of the four sides they play in the run home - starting with the stand alone Frankston Dolphins who have only been beaten once - by ladder leader Port Melbourne - in their last 6 outings.

Apart from the key inclusions of AFL omissions Dawson Simpson and Brad Hartman, the Cats have named a relatively unchanged squad from the one that destroyed the Zebras at Trevor Barker Beach Oval two weeks ago.

St Joseph’s small forward Brant Haintz has been named to make his debut and will be the fifth 23rd player the Cats have used this season. 20-year-old Haintz, has kicked 50 goals in 29 GFL matches over the past two seasons.

The 2014 season has been a far more impressive one for the VFL Dolphins than what their ladder position of thirteenth suggests. Aside from the 4 impressive victories, the Simon Goosey coached outfit have recorded 2 draws and lost a further 4 matches by less than 2 goals.

The breeding ground at Frankston Oval has produced the likes of Michael Hibberd (Essendon), Kyle Martin (Collingwood) and Sam Lloyd (Richmond) in recent times and is well on the way to unearthing it’s next crop of potential draftees.

An exciting young group including the ‘Newman Brothers’ - Josh and Nick, Ben Cavarra, Josh Tynan and Tim Harper are quickly forming a lethal combination with experienced VFL campaigners Michael Lourey, Luke Potts, Leigh Kitchin, Khan Haretuku, Russell Gabriel, Shane Hockey, Jarrod Irving and former Cat Scott Simpson.

The match dubbed ‘The Battle of the Bay’ kicks off at 12.00pm with the Polly Farmer Gates (off Moorabool St) opening at 11.00am. As is the case for all home matches at Simonds Stadium, 2014 Geelong Cats members gain FREE entry.

For all Cats fans that cannot get to Simonds Stadium on Saturday, the match will be tweeted live, so follow @GeelongVFL on Twitter for all the action including live scores, stats updates and photos.
