Chris Scott says the Cats will ‘hopefully’ have some new tricks up their sleeves for finals, however, that won't be the key of their campaign.

Although the Cats plan to make some on-field changes as they crawl towards finals, Scott says their present structures will play the biggest role come finals.

“We’re working on a few slight adjustments to our game but I think the main priority for us needs to be concentrating on the core of our game – the things we do well,” Scott told Cats TV on Tweet the Coach.

“There will be slight tweaks given the opposition we play and maybe some slight improvements to the way we can move the ball through for example, but we won’t be relying on tricks or surprises to get it done this year.”

Currently Geelong resides next to Sydney and Hawthorn at the highest point of the ladder with only five rounds to go.

Confident that the Cats can go all the way, Scott concedes he’s had to remind the group of how close they are to the prize but besides that he says finals are not a priority of discussion.

“We don’t really touch on it too much at all,” Scott said.

“I think there’s the odd occasion as a coach where you need to remind the players that ‘hey we are in a pretty good position here and we have as good a chance as anyone but for the most part our players are pretty switched on.

“They’ve got a lot of belief in what we can do and even a cursory glance a the ladder would suggest that we have a pretty good chance to do good things this year.”

Also on Tweet the Coach Scott discussed the future of developing players Jed Bews and Billie Smedts.

Scott sees both young Cats as versatile footballers who have the potential of moving into the midfield.

“They’re both pretty flexible players, we’re certainly trying to develop them that way,” Scott said.

“Bews is probably more suited to the back half of the ground, although his offensive play has really improved over the last couple of months in particular, which doesn’t preclude him from moving up in the midfield.

“Smedts we think is probably a back half player but really flexible given his attributes… we haven’t ruled out Billie playing a role within the midfield and our forward group as well.”
