As the end of the season approaches, All-Australian team selection looms, so who could we possibly see representing the Cats in the prestigious side? Cats TV spoke to AFL journalist Scott Gullan about the contenders.

“I think the Tomahawk [Tom Hawkins] has to be front and square as the power forward,” Gullan said.

“Think of who else; Buddy’s warming up… What other power forwards?

“I think for consistency, Hawk deserves it,” Gullan said.

Hawkins was named in the All-Australian side in 2012, the same year he won Geelong’s Carji Greeves Medal.

Apart from Hawkins, Gullan was stumped for other serious candidates.

“Normally there’s half a dozen queuing up… right now, it’s bizarre to say, it could only be Hawk,” Gullan admitted.

“It could be [Geelong’s] thinnest representation in many years,” Gullan said.

Over the past seven years, Geelong has been represented 34 times plus 3 times by the coach.

Last year the Cats had 4 players named in the final 22, with Joel Selwood the captain.

“Joel Selwood’s a regular but he’s had a quiet patch,” Gullan said.

“Steve Johnson’s first six games were amazing, [since then] quiet patch.

“Harry Taylor: quiet patch come good.

“Corey Enright: probably not at his All-Australian level, so we’re searching,” Gullan said.

The All-Australian side will be announced in September.
