Despite the Eagles recent string of injuries, including their skipper Darren Glass, Mitch Duncan says the Cats never go in expecting an easy run.

“They’re still going to be a good side, they’ve probably got a lot of depth and it’s always going to be a hard slog and it’s probably going to be a little bit wet but we’ll be prepared and ready to take them on,” Duncan told 6PR News Talk.

The Cats priority this week is to play the Geelong way whilst maintaining the intensity in the middle, as well as keeping a firm paw on the Eagles’ ruckmen.

“We’ll have to stop the big fellers having a big influence and it’s probably a game in the midfield as well - but I think we’re just going to focus on how we want to play,” Duncan said.

“We’re pretty confident that we can get the job done but we’ll have to be on our A-game, as they haven’t lost a game yet and they’re a quality opposition.”

At the young age of 22, Duncan is already on the brink of playing his 80th game this Saturday night when he meets the Eagles for Round 4.

This week Duncan is sure to bring out the goods after equaling a team high of 30 touches with his skipper, Joel Selwood, against the Pies last week.

“I consider myself lucky to be included in such a great side,” Duncan said.

“I do work very hard at what I do and it’s great to see a little bit of a reward there but it doesn’t really mean too much at this point of time, and obviously I want to win another flag and to keep winning and be at a successful club, which probably drives me a little bit more.”

Senior coach Chris Scott spoke to 3AW about another emerging star at the Cattery Cam Guthrie.

The highly regarded youngster has convinced Scott that his offensive impact could be greater than Geelong’s former captain and football legend Cameron Ling.

However, he admits it’s a tricky one to assess as their footy styles are very different.

“He’s a different player to Lingy - I’m probably being a little bit disrespectful to Lingy when I say Cam might even be a better offensive weapon than Lingy was.

“We’re not really sure where he’s going to end up, he does a great job defensively but we think he can develop into a really well-rounded player, he’s proven to us at least, that he’s a very capable defender but we think he’ll probably end up as a genuine inside mid.”
