After Tom Hawkins electric performance against the Pies, Cats TV ask Andrew Mackie and Herald Sun journalist Scott Gullan if Hawkins is the Cats most valuable player?

On Saturday night Hawkins planted four goals on the Cats scoreboard with one in the third term and three in the last.

According to Gullan the gun forward, along with players like Joel Selwood and Harry Taylor, delivers an x-factor that can’t be meddled with.

“He did win a flag off his own boot a while back – it’s a close call," Gullan told Cats TV.

“You’ve got Selwood, Taylor but I’m going to go with it because if the Hawks on no one can stop him.”

While Hawkins’s form in front of goal this year has been a key asset, Mackie confirms that his job involves a lot more than just scoring goals.

“He’s shown some really good form for us, not only on Saturday night but all preseason - he’s moved well, trained well and he’s taken on an added leadership role up there which is very important for us as our forward line is very young,” Mackie said.

“So his role isn’t just going to be kicking goals…”
