Geelong Cats physio Mike Snelling spoke to Cats TV about the latest on the injury front in this week’s nib Medical Room, which included good news for Corey Enright and Steven Motlop.

Enright missed out against Collingwood last week due an ankle injury but has shown positive signs already and will face another test at the end of the week.

“He’s gone through a whole process of running and offline running. He completed a session today which gave us a fair bit of confidence that we can test him at the end of the week and hopefully, he’ll be available, so that’s a good result,” Snelling told Cats TV.

Young Cat James Toohey looks set to play his first VFL game this weekend, after training well today.

“He completed a session with Corey today and he got through it pretty well, so he’ll be another test at the end of the week and hopefully we can see him in Geelong colours at the end of this week,” Snelling said.

Another young Cat, Jed Bews, also looks set to be tested at the end of the week, after copping a knock on the ankle in the VFL on Friday night.

“He has had some problems in the past with his ankles but he’s been quite resilient in the last 12 months. He copped a little bit of a sprain, he also completed the same session with James and Corey and got through well so I’d expect to test him later in the week as well,” Snelling said.

Things are looking up for the boys with short-term injuries, with Billie Smedts and Steven Motlop both increasing their training.

“Billie’s going well, he’s definitely turned the corner, he had a session on the treadmill indoors, took a little bit of his body weight off, and now he’s outdoors running around and hopefully he’ll progress pretty quickly over the next week or so.

“Steve’s joined training this week, so he joined the boys today with quite a loud roar of applause. We’ll probably get a couple of weeks training under his belt, we’ll reassess the situation at that point and obviously, he hasn’t had a preseason so he needs to get a bit of conditioning before we consider him for a game,” Snelling said.

Allen Christensen has slowly begun running, with things also looking up for Daniel Menzel who has shown real progress.

“We saw (Christensen) out there on the track today which was fantastic, that’s about his second session of ‘trotting’, he’s not running to quick at the moment. But at least he’s out there, so he’ll go through the processes now and hopefully there’s light at the end of the tunnel,” Snelling said.

“Menz has looked really good. He was out on the track yesterday, kicking a few goals in the open session and then today he was running and he also looks like he’s turned a bit of a corner and moving quite well out there, so lets hold our fingers crossed for Menz out there in the future,” Snelling said.
