The Geelong Cats tonight unveiled their 2014 Player Leadership Group at the club's Season Launch held at Crown’s Palladium.

Harry Taylor steps into the role of vice-captain, while veteran Jimmy Bartel is stepping out of the leadership group to make way for some fresh faces.

“Harry is a fantastic leader around the club on a daily basis and we see him as a perfect fit for the role of vice-captain. His relationships with all levels of the team is outstanding and he’s certainly one many look up to,” senior coach Chris Scott said.

Scott also thanked outgoing vice-captain Jimmy Bartel for his leadership.

"Jimmy should be commended, a vice-captain who has been an integral part of the leadership group. Although he is no longer a leader in an official capacity, he will continue to be seen as one around the club."

Mathew Stokes and Mitch Duncan will join the leadership group for the first time.

Stokes and Duncan join Joel Selwood, Harry Taylor, Tom Hawkins, James Kelly, Andrew Mackie and Steve Johnson in the eight member group.

A revelation in 2013, Stokes enjoyed an outstanding season which exceeded all expectations. His fine form has earned him the upmost respect from his teammates.

“Stokesy's inclusion in this year’s leadership group is a credit to him. He is not only a well-liked member of the team, but also very well-respected from the great relationships he has formed within the club."

Duncan’s inclusion comes in only his fifth year at the club, proving the potential he has both on and off the field.

“Mitch will be around for many years to come and we see him as one who can take the club in the right direction. Mitch impressively demonstrates young leadership, a trait that we want around the club heading into the future,” Scott said.
