MATHEW Stokes will miss Saturday's clash with Richmond at the MCG due to ongoing achilles tendon soreness.

Stokes was injured during the Cats' round three win over Gold Coast and subsequently missed the round four loss to North Melbourne.

"We want to take our time with this and get it right, so we'll be looking more closely at next week," club physio Mark Young told CatsTV in the round five edition of nib Medical Room.

Andrew Mackie will also spend at least another week on the sidelines as he recovers from a quad injury.

"Mack is going really well with his rehab," Young said. "He'll be looking to join the boys [on the training track] later this week, early next week, and then he'll come into consideration.

The latest edition of nib Medical Room also features updates on:

* Tom Lonergan (concussion)
* Jarrad Jansen (hamstring)
