Geelong recruit Patrick Dangerfield has seen enough of his new teammates to declare they have the potential to be one of the best midfields in the AFL.

Dangerfield, who has starred for the Cats in each of their NAB Challenge games in 2016, said he knew coming in the Cats had plenty of talent coming through.

“From afar, you understand that there are some really quality players in there and some younger players coming up from underneath,” Dangerfield said.

However, continuing the mantra of the club throughout the preseason, Dangerfield said the Cats won’t be relying on their superstars to win games.

“I think for us to be successful, it’s not just going to be two or three dominant players every week, it’s going to be that whole band of seven to 10 midfielders that rotate through there.

“If we have a really even contribution from everyone — and every game there’ll be someone that has that breakout game and be really dominant — if we can have a really even contribution most weeks I think we will be one of the better midfields in the competition.

But with round one just 11 days away, Dangerfield told the Geelong Advertiser there was still plenty of work to do.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do in order to set our season up to give ourselves the best chance of playing in September, but I think we have the players and the calibre of people to be able to do that.”
