Geelong ruckman Dawson Simpson will face surgery this week after succumbing to another back injury.

Simpson, who has already had two surgeries on his back, will go under the knife on Tuesday in a move that will end his 2014 campaign.

Speaking to K-Rock radio on Saturday night, Geelong general manager of football Neil Balme said the club was disappointed for the ruckman.

“He’s certainly out of the equation for this year, which is disappointing for us as a team, but also particularly disappointing for him.”

“It’s bad news for him. Hopefully it’ll be simple enough and he’ll be right for next year.”

“It looks like he needs some more work on it. I think it’ll be his third go,”

Balme said the club would support Simpson and was hopeful he will return to normality in 2015.

“It’s all getting pretty serious for him. So hopefully this works and he’s able to have a decent crack at it next year.”

“The thought at the moment is he should be fine and he’ll get through this and he’ll be OK.”

“But certainly one of the things that he and we had to take into account was that he’s had a couple of these already, what does it really mean? How does he go for the rest of his life?”

Simpson has averaged 6 disposals and 22 hit outs in his 13 games this year.
