Geelong’s skipper Joel Selwood confirmed that the Cats aim this Saturday is to emulate their performance from last week against the Swans at Simonds Stadium.

Selwood said the Cats injected a ‘finals’ brand of football into their game against the Eagles last Saturday night, and they plan to deliver that exact same brand against the Swans.

“We played it (final style football) on Saturday night and we look to play it again this week.”

“This game is not an easy game to play and you’ve just got to keep bringing it every week and that’s our challenge this week.”

Selwood admits that he’s been focusing on strengthening his game, especially in and around the goal square, so he can better assist his fellow forwards when they’re being tagged.

“Yeah, I’ve started kicking a few more goals,” Selwood said.

“I don’t know, I guess you find yourself in the right spot at the right time and it’s just falling my way at the moment, it doesn’t always work like that I can tell you.

“What we’re finding is a lot of sides our flooding back on Tom Hawkins and James Podsiadly, which means midfielders need to kick more goals.

“You always work on your game and it’s (goal kicking) something I’ve probably been lacking.”

This Saturday their may be a skipper pair-up with Selwood and the Swans co-captain Kieren Jack, who averaged 24 possessions last year and played a pivotal role in the 2012 Grand Final.

Selwood says the 26-year-old midfielder is one of the most respected skippers in the league for his hard and consistent work on field.

“(Jack is a) huge runner, huge competitor and he has become one of the elite players of the competition.”

“There was no surprise that he was named captain at the start of the year because I think within the Swans’ walls he’s rated very highly and now within the AFL also.”

The Swans have confirmed that their key veteran, Jude Bolton, who is currently racked third on the Swans goal kicking tally this year, will miss the big clash at Simonds Stadium.

The Swans senior coach, John Longmire, has replaced the midfielder with 10-game player, Tom Mitchell.
