As the end of the 2014 home and away season approaches, Cats TV asks AFL journalist Adam McNicol if it’s likely Geelong’s skipper will again be in the race for this year’s Brownlow medal?

Falling behind by just one vote, Joel Selwood, in 2013, once again missed out on the prestigious medal with former teammate Gary Ablett taking it home with a total of 28 votes.

Since Selwood’s debut in 2007 he has collected a significant tally of 116 Brownlow votes and McNicol is confident that he’s on his way to collecting a whole lot more.

“He averages 15 or 16 votes a season… he’s got an unbelievable ability to rack up Brownlow votes because he is of course an unbelievably good player,” McNicol told Cats TV.

Having powered along in the first half of the season Selwood did have a spell of three games where he fell below 20 touches.

However, the rest of his performances have been nothing less than exceptional.

As McNicol says, Selwood always makes himself a possible contestant for the Brownlow medal.

“Early this season he was exceptional… perhaps he won’t get as many in the middle of the season but I think the last few weeks we’ll see him racking up a few again,” McNicol said.

“So Sewlood is always a chance to win the Brownlow.”
