In the lead up to the Round 4 clash, West Coast ruckman Dean Cox has admitted he respects Geelong for their ability to maintain talent and play such a successful brand of football for so long.

“They’re a footy team I admire for the success they’ve had, their ability to maintain the core group of players, which eventually gave them that success.

“A lot of players could have left for a lot more money but stayed purely for the fact that they love team success and they got it. And all those core players are still playing really well,” Cox said.

Last time Geelong and West Coast met, in Round 21 last season, the Cats smashed the Eagles by 66 points in the West.

“They run really well and I certainly admire them for the team they are, I enjoy watching them play,” Cox said.

West Coast will be taking to Simonds Stadium for the first time since 2010, when they went down by 44 points.

“I think certainly, it’s right up there (with the toughest away games for West Coast). But that’s purely because of the football club Geelong are as well.

“We’ve had some lean days there… They’ve been an unbelievable team for a long period of time and play their ground very well,” Cox said.

On Saturday the Eagles will be without sharpshooter Mark LeCras and star midfielder Luke Shuey.
