Charity Programs

Geelong Cats and Give Where You Live

The Geelong Cats Charity Program began in 2004. The program, run in conjunction with United Way Geelong, ensures the Cats service the Geelong community through a structured public relations program which brings benefits to the wider community

United Way raises funds for more than 60 local health and human care organisations and the Geelong Cats gladly assist where it can. Charities apply through a detailed application process. Charity groups are chosen and receive an array of benefits for the year, including match entry tickets, a signed guernsey, pre signed footballs and access to players.

Starlight Childrens Foundation

The Geelong Cats have enjoyed a strong association with the Starlight Children’s Foundation since 2007. The club plays a proactive role in helping Starlight with fundraising, Starlight Wishgranting, Starlight Escapes and other events.

Our club’s affiliation with Starlight has brought much pleasure to both players and seriously ill children.
Each month, players visit the Starlight Express Room at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne where they have helped Captain Starlight deliver much needed fun and laughter to hospitalised children.

Players have also assisted Starlight in granting the wishes for seriously ill children through Starlight’s
Wishgranting program. Shannon Byrnes and Daniel Menzel are the club’s Starlight Ambassadors. As part of this commitment, Shannon and Daniel welcome Starlight families throughout the year to provide much needed distractions.

Barwon Health Foundation

The Geelong Cats is proud to support the Barwon Health Foundation. The foundation has been established to generate funds through the implementation of fundraising appeals, activity partnerships and publicity campaigns, to support the health services provided by Barwon Health.

Geelong Cats support a number of Barwon Health Foundation events each year, including:
  • Geelong Hospital Annual Appeal
  • Hot Chocolate Day
  • Gala Day
  • Tin Shake
Geelong Cats players visit the Geelong Hospital on a monthly basis. These visits are well received by patients and their families. The players bring giveaways such as posters and footballs for the patients which puts a big smile on their faces.

beyondblue Cup

Each season, Geelong Cats and Hawthorn play off for the beyondblue Cup. The beyondblue Cup aims to raise awareness of depression, anxiety and associated drug and alcohol problems and to reduce stigma within the AFL community.
