COACHING HISTORY
David Wheadon returned to Skilled Stadium in 2007 for a second tour of duty with the Cats, taking up the role of skill acquisition coach.

Wheadon previously served as Geelong’s reserves, assistant and skills coach between 1985-90.

The 2009 season will be Wheadon’s 25th consecutive season at AFL level, having worked with Geelong (1985-90; 2007-09), Carlton (1991), Essendon (1993-97), Collingwood (1998-99) and Richmond (2000-06).

Over his AFL coaching career he has worked with nine senior coaches, including Tom Hafey, John Devine, Malcolm Blight, David Parkin, Kevin Sheedy, Tony Shaw, Danny Frawley, Terry Wallace and Mark Thompson. In that time the teams he has been with have compiled a 294-274-4 record over 572 matches.

He has been a member of three AFL premiership campaigns, working with the 2007 and 2009 Cats and the 1993 ‘baby Bombers’ as assistant coach.

Wheadon is one of footballs most innovative thinkers, and has filled a number of roles through his career including assistant coach, forward line coach, defensive coach, goal kicking coach, opposition analyst, skills coach, ruck coach, reserves coach and football manager.

PLAYING HISTORY

Wheadon debuted with Collingwood in 1968 and played 19 games with the Magpies, kicking four goals at senior level in three seasons. He played in the Magpies two finals in 1969 and kicked two goals in Collingwood’s preliminary final loss to Richmond.
