Nine Lives - Luncheon

On Friday (May 4) nearly two hundred Nine Lives Club members and their guests gathered at The Pier to share a great afternoon at our annual luncheon. Along with delicious food and drinks and musical entertainment by Johnny Wonderpants, each guest received a show bag containing lots of goodies, courtesy of our new sponsor, Market Square, and other generous donors.

Speakers included Nine Lives Committee Chair person and Geelong Cats board member, Diana Taylor, who welcomed everyone and spoke of the role and goals of Nine Lives; Centre Manager, Sandy KellyBurton and Marketing Manager Sarla Holmes who represented our new sponsor, Market Square; No. 1 Female ticket holder, Channel 7 personality, Rebecca Maddern who entertained us with her revelation that a lap in a very fast car is nearly as exciting as winning the Grand Final (!), and Ron Watt, who highlighted the Cats’ ongoing connection with Groote Eylandt by chatting with two young Deakin education students who had recently spent time there.

Billy Brownless did another sensational job as MC in conjunction with Rebecca Maddern, and his entertaining interview with several young players caused us to marvel again at Stephen Wells’ ability to recruit players who are not only talented footballers, but exceptional young men.

Guests supported two focus community groups on the day by donating money to the Give Where You Live Dollar-a-Day-in May Drive and blankets and jackets to the Vinnies Winter Appeal.

Our favourite auctioneer, Phil De Fegely, conducted the main auction in his inimitable style and lots of weird and wonderful items were won in the silent auction and raffle.

It was a fantastic day all round and many thanks go to our sponsor, Market Square, as well as to Billy Brownless, Rebecca Maddern, the players, (Billie Smedts, Dawson Simpson, Joel Hamling, Ryan Bathie, Jonathan Simpkin, Taylor Hunt, George Burbury & Jackson Sheringham) Phil De Fegley, Johnny Wonderpants, Sandy KellyBurton and Sarla Holmes  and, especially, the Nine-Lives Geelong Committee.

And thanks most of all to everyone who attended. We hope to see you all again soon at our upcoming functions. Keep an eye out for information!
